Our Stories

Each one of us here at Element Bars has been affected by cancer. These are our stories.

A close family friend was just diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma this summer at only 29. Many people think of cancer as an older person's disease so it was a stark reminder that cancer affects us all. At the same time, her youthful, vibrant personality keeps her positive and energized to stay in school, stay active, and stay the course during this challenging time

My grandmother passed away when I was 18. She raised me. It changed my life. She was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away one and a half years later. Looking back, I am grateful for the 18 years I spent with her. And I am thankful to have had the opportunity to cherish each of my final days with her. From this experience, I gained a unique strength that carries me through adversity today. I’ve learned that a loved one lost is not truly love lost because her presence still lingers. She resides in my memories and is a part of who I am. Today, her picture hangs in my living room. It is a reminder of someone incredible who has touched my soul and changed my life

Both my grandmother and grandfather were diagnosed with cancer. They survived it because it was found early! Everyone should check his or her health status at least once a year. Doing so can save your life

My uncle was as smart as they come. He was a role model for how to study the world, humbly listen to others, and keep an open mind. This was how he approached problems and showed pragmatic leadership in his convictions. He showed the same down to earth strength to his family, steadfastly fighting his cancer over the years and continuing to make a positive impact in the world. His example taught me volumes about how to live

My grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer 4 years ago. While nothing could have prepared me for this, it provided me a great opportunity to remember and to cherish the time that my brother and I were able to spend with him. To this day, he remains a life- shaping force to my family and myself
